Horizon Power Grid Garden

150 kW – 1 MW+, community scale

Concept render of a Power Grid Garden: a glass public greenhouse full of plants, set in a city park, above an underground room of fuel cell and battery cabinets
Concept render

A community microgrid that hides nothing and wastes nothing. Hydrogen fuel cells below ground power the neighborhood, while their only byproducts, heat and pure water, sustain a public greenhouse above.

Making power beautiful

A power station the neighborhood gathers around.

Every fuel cell produces three things: electricity, heat and pure water. Conventional plants sell the first and vent the rest. The Power Grid Garden is designed to use all three, so power generation becomes a community asset, not a fenced-off liability.

Electricity

Grid-independent power for neighborhoods, businesses and data centers.

Heat

Vented. Raised into a greenhouse that grows all year.

Pure water

Vented. Piped up to water the gardens above the plant.

Five stages, one closed cycle

The loop.

This cycle is the product. Hydrogen becomes electricity, the byproducts become a garden, and the community feeds the cycle back to its start. Step through it, or let it run.

Hydrogen, produced on site

Reformers and electrolyzers generate hydrogen locally and bank it in storage tanks, ready whenever the community draws.

The platform

Proven hardware, new arrangement.

The Power Grid Garden is a vision in development. Its building blocks are not: every system below already runs in Renewable Innovations hardware in the field today, composed here at community scale.

Hydrogen fuel cell systems

Grid-independent generation in scalable configurations from 150 kW past a megawatt, with hydrogen storage tanks alongside.

EmPower inverters

The same power conversion and control layer that runs RI's EmPower stationary systems, sized for a neighborhood.

Backup batteries

Battery storage rides through load swings and backs the fuel cells, so the community never notices the transition.

Reformers and electrolyzers

On-site hydrogen production turns local power and water into fuel, keeping the loop closed inside the community.

The community ecosystem

The garden is the center. The grid reaches further.

Rooftops

Solar into the supply

Neighborhood rooftop solar feeds the community supply, adding daytime generation the microgrid can store or convert to hydrogen.

Retail

Fuel and charging in town

Hydrogen fueling and rapid EV charging at neighborhood retail: energy the community makes, sold where the community shops.

Fleets

Conversion with on-site electrolysis

Local fleets convert to hydrogen with on-site electrolyzing stations, fueled by the same production that powers the grid.

Where it stands

In development, on tested ground.

We say it plainly: no Power Grid Garden is operating yet.

We are working with community developers to bring the first Greenhouse Grids from concept to ground-breaking. But RI hardware is already being tested as community infrastructure.

EPRI and the California Energy Commission selected RI-built hydrogen fuel cell trailer hardware for the Oakmont Village community microgrid pilot in Santa Rosa, California. The Power Grid Garden composes that same proven platform into something a neighborhood can walk through.
