EmPower Lite

Install day: lifted off the truck in one piece.

A hydrogen fuel cell UPS in a single ISO-transportable enclosure. It arrives factory-assembled, lifts onto a pad by crane or forklift, and protects your site with up to 150 kW of always-online, carbon-free power.

Four tiers, EL15 to EL150. Parallel-expandable as your load grows.

A power plant the size of a parking space.

EmPower Lite packs one or two hydrogen fuel cells, up to 300 kWh of LFP battery, and inverters into a single factory-assembled enclosure. Because the fuel cells are always online, there is no transfer switch and no gap. It is an uninterruptible power supply and a generator in one machine, running wherever diesel used to be the only option.

  • Shipping ISO-transportable

One machine, no handoff.

No transfer switch

The fuel cells are always online, so there is no switchover event and no gap when the grid fails. UPS-grade protection and generation in one machine.

Onboard emergency hydrogen

An optional internal store of 40 kg of 99.999% pure hydrogen at 700 bar gives the unit its own emergency reserve, independent of external supply.

PMP monitoring platform

The Power Management Platform delivers real-time data, remote management and power brokering over Wi-Fi or a cabled network connection.

Grows in parallel

Start with one enclosure sized to today's load and add units as operations grow, without redesigning the installation.

Bar heights are drawn to scale in kilowatts: solid for continuous rating, outlined for peak, with battery capacity beside them. Every tier is parallel-expandable: add units as your load grows. Recommendations here are a starting point; an engineer confirms the tier with you.

Drop-and-go deployment

Arrives in one piece. Works the same day.

EmPower Lite is fully assembled and tested at the factory, then shipped in a single ISO-dimensioned enclosure, 3029 × 2438 × 2896 mm. A crane or forklift sets it on a concrete pad or piles, loads connect, and the site is protected. There is no field assembly and no plant to construct.

It operates from −10 to +45 °C and delivers three-phase 480/400/280 V or single-phase 230/240/120 V at 50 or 60 Hz: one platform for North American, European and Pacific infrastructure.

June 2023, state-owned enterprise order

A national first for hydrogen power

A large New Zealand state-owned enterprise ordered the country's first hydrogen fuel cell UPS: an EmPower Lite protecting transportation infrastructure at semi-remote sites where diesel was previously the only option. A successful pilot is projected to lead to more than 100 systems, a pipeline worth over $30 million.

AECOM collaboration, the EmPower 50 variant

Engineered for the ends of the earth

With AECOM New Zealand, RI developed the EmPower 50, a variant of the platform delivering up to 80 kW, running up to seven days on hydrogen cylinder packs, silent, and deliverable by helicopter to sites no truck can reach. It is distinct from the EL tiers, and proof of how far the platform configures.

“This is an exciting first to be implementing hydrogen power UPS solutions in New Zealand and other South Pacific countries.”

Robert Mount, CEO, Renewable Innovations

“The EmPower 50 operates as a true uninterruptable power supply, delivering managed, high-quality power and using clean green hydrogen.”

Mark Cain, Pacific Area Director

“This is a unique opportunity to become a pioneer in developing hydrogen solutions for New Zealand.”

Kevin Hodges, Principal Electrical Engineer, AECOM
