Hybrid stationary power systems

EmPower 1.5 MW

1.76 MWof fuel cells installed behind the 1.5 MW rating

A megawatt-class hydrogen power plant in a 40-foot container. It arrives factory-integrated, sits on a concrete pad, and delivers primary and backup power with no combustion, no transfer switch, and no CO₂ emissions permits.

Just add hydrogen. You're ready to go.

On battery alone at full load

Always online

A UPS and a generator, in one machine.

A standby generator has to start; a UPS has to hand off. EmPower does neither, because its fuel cells are always online. There is no transfer switch and no gap between grid power and backup power. And if the hydrogen supply is ever interrupted, the battery array alone carries the full load for about 30 minutes.

EmPowerFuel cells already online. Nothing to start, nothing to switch.
Standby generatorWaits for the outage, then has to start and transfer.
Illustration: when the grid fails, a standby generator's output drops to zero until it starts and transfers; EmPower's output stays continuous. Grid outage Start and transfer Time

Fuel cells, with headroom built in

Hydrogen fuel cells of 80 kW and up total as much as 1.76 MW installed behind the 1.5 MW rating. That margin is engineered redundancy: the system holds its rated output without ever asking every cell to do so.

Battery array

A 720 kWh lithium-ion array is standard, configurable from 500 to 1,200 kWh. It absorbs load swings and, if hydrogen supply is interrupted, carries the full load alone for about 30 minutes.

Inverters and heat exchangers

Up to 1.5 MW of inverters deliver AC at 120/208 and 480 Delta. High-efficiency heat exchangers are built in, with connections to your facility's exchangers.

Arrives whole, sits on a pad

Everything ships in a single 40-foot container. Site preparation is a concrete pad and your electrical connection. Then add hydrogen.

Size your system

Pick a load. Plan the hydrogen.

Hydrogen logistics are the first question serious buyers ask, so here are the data-sheet numbers: continuous full-load consumption of 99.999% hydrogen, delivering 12–20 kWh per kilogram.

Where it goes first

Built for loads that can't wait for the grid.

Renewable Innovations hydrogen system powering a data center

Data centers

Guaranteed uptime, online months before a utility interconnect. EmPower installs outside the building quickly, or inside if needed, connected to existing super-computer cooling systems.

Commercial facilities

Avoid power disruptions and grid-upgrade delays, expand capacity as operations grow, and keep full control over your own energy supply. One machine for both everyday power and outage protection.

EV charging sites

Bypass grid limitations entirely. Megawatt-class power behind the chargers means a site can open where the utility can't serve it yet, and scale without waiting on the feeder.

Data center heritage

Proven where uptime is the product.

The team behind EmPower has been putting fuel cells under data center loads since 2017, when they worked with NREL to prove that hydrogen fuel cells could power a data center, and then with Microsoft and others to demonstrate that the approach scales.

EmPower is that heritage as a product: the fuel cells, battery, inverters and thermal systems integrated, tested and delivered as one machine.
